Happy Women’s Day everyone! I have a friend who likes to repeat that there should be an international day for men too. I just think it should be everybody’s day everyday and that’s it to make it fair.
Today I spent the day with a friend and her baby in beautiful and old Girona. The drive from Tossa de Mar was only 45 minutes therefore visiting the city was a top option for one of these days. We did not regret it as I believe that the town has a lot to offer and to sightsee. One day was not enough but we tried to stay relaxed and make the most of our visit.
First, we walked all the little and narrow streets with a huge stroller. It was funny and weird to fight the cobbled stones and try to stop and take good pictures while the cars are passing by. Vehicles are permitted to drive in every single road so staying alive as a tourist most be hard in busier days. We went around the gothic cathedral, the church of Sant Feliu and entered some of the tiny streets with stairs that characterizes the old part of the town. I followed the Archeological walk to take some pictures of the amazing view of Girona and later walked up to a part of the city wall. The area surrounding the city has tall pines and trees which mixed with the ancient architecture bring a very peaceful atmosphere. We wanted to visit the Arab baths, a romanesque construction from the XII century but the building was closed by the time we got to the area.
One thing I noticed was the Catalan independence flag in not so few buildings. At some point I thought that the flag with a star was an official Catalunya flag to only find out recently that this is the separatist flag.
After the sunset, we took another walk by the river and the small boulevard (rambla) to “discover” that some of the shops have really interesting craft, local designs for clothing and jewellery. Let’s confess that we ended up buying Women’s Day presents for each of us. 😉
