Happy Women’s Day :)
Categories: Cuba Inside Out

I remember when I was in primary school in Havana that March,8th was the day when girls would receive a flower or a postcard and the teacher would explain to the students what a huge role women play in our society as daughters, workers, wives and mothers.
At my parents’ workplace they would serve cake and all the women would work half day.
Not until later I realized what a tough path women had to walk and still do walk in other countries where they are not yet treated with equality with respect to men. I also began to understand how not only physical violence is still a problem in some homes but also how big of a problem is the psychological violence in which a woman is expected to behave, live and follow certain rules or traditions just because it is the way things have always been.
I lift my glass to celebrate this occasion and honor all the amazing women throughout history, the super girls I have as friends and last but not least the women in my family, my grandma, my mother, a true example of love and care.

Feliz Dia de la Mujer!
