Life, Culture and Travels from the perspective of a Cuban
Of Decadence and Signs…or Signs of Decadence
Categories: Cuba Inside Out

Some things are consistent in Havana and those are usually the negative ones. Every pavement has a hole, every building has a public hall with a missing lightbulb, every block has at least one informer. As crazy as it may sound this time I noticed the consistency of the lack of street signs. Every traffic sign that falls never gets replaced and more important to mention, there is almost always a piece of metal sticking off the ground.

I am familiar with the remains around my neighbourhood but since I made a comment and joked about it I started to notice even more scattered around the city. Who knows how many minor accidents have been due to that annoying piece of metal that no one seems to ever remove. Old people must be terrify about it, besides the sidewalk holes, the cars and the bikes they need to worry about sharp obstacles making their stroll a hell.

Does every Cuban notice this or am I a part of some insane group of Cubans who only finds faults in the city? Are the Americans (since as per my country’s government all the shit happening in Cuba is USA’s fault) doing this at night to bug our grandparents or distracted pedestrians?
