Today an incredible Canadian leader has left us. I woke up this morning and read the news with great grief.
To me Jack Layton was not only the New Democratic Party (NDP) face but also the downtown Torontonian that was known for understanding his community and the needs of the city. Only two months ago I visited the parliament in Ottawa and felt proud and confident of seeing him there, on the “left” side.
His final letter was so touching, real and optimistic that I am sure many Canadians, like me, found out today a little bit more about his life and hard work to make this city and country an even better place.
My deepest respect to his memory. Toronto mourns.
