We arrived in Catalunya to visit a couple of friends who are currently living in Tossa de Mar, a small town about 100 km from Barcelona. We took the RENFE train from Sants Estacio to Blanes and then the bus to Lloret de Mar. Our friend drove us to Tossa explaining that during the hot months the town is flooded with British and German tourists who come to Girona airport to enjoy the Spanish sun. The rest of the year the houses are empty and only a few permanent residents can be seen with their dogs along the way.
The nature of the area is very similar to the one found in the south of San Francisco: big mountains with houses built looking at the Mediterranean and windy roads. It was nice to see the ocean again after a couple of months even if I cannot swim in there. 🙂
Today we spent sometime in Blanes and stayed there for lunch. We entered a couple of little shops, had a great chocolate with churros at Casa Olivares and strolled along a deserted seawalk that will have hundreds of people in a few months. The weather was beautiful and I was thrilled to have lunch by the ocean in the last day of February.
These little towns are lovely and the fact that they are close to the ocean made them priceless.
